FNESC works in partnership with the BC Aboriginal Education
Partners Group, as well as with experienced Anti-Racism Consultant, Eric Wong,
to address the racism experienced by Aboriginal people in the education system.
Anti-Racism Workshops
The overall intent of all of the FNESC sponsored Anti-Racism workshops is to
provide participants with the knowledge and tools to prevent discrimination
and create schools and communities that value diversity. The workshops are
lead by Eric Wong, FNESC Anti-Racism Consultant, who has in the past presented
workshops to groups ranging from elementary school aged children to teachers
and professional bus drivers. Descriptions of possible workshops are listed
below, but if you have a specific idea or audience and would like to discuss
developing a workshop that meets your school or community’s unique
needs, please contact Eric Wong or the FNESC office.

BC Anti-Racism Leadership Network
FNESC has worked with a number of community members and youth to train them
in anti-racism workshop facilitation skills. This network of people based in
various communities of BC with a passion for sharing their skills and knowledge
in the area of anti-racism. These adults and youth have undergone training in
what racism means, how it manifests itself, its impact on Aboriginal people,
its consequences and skills in leading and facilitating an effective anti-racism
workshop. These local community leaders can be contacted through the FNESC office

Accomplishments
1. Development of the Anti-Racism Toolkit for use in workshop and school settings.
2. Providing anti-racism awareness and intervention workshops across BC to
a wide variety of audiences, including teachers, trustees, principals, students
and community members
3. Awareness-raising through FNESC newsletters and communications
4. Research on internalized racism
5. Training of youth in anti-racism leadership – two training sessions
were held to teach approximately 20 youth about anti-racism education and workshop

6. Establishment of a network of Anti-Racism Leaders – this is a province-wide
network of people with a passion for anti-racism work.
