Bill 40 School Amendment Act (Model LEA, School of Choice, and Indigenous Education Councils)
The First Nations Education Steering Committee (FNESC) invites you to the upcoming DRIPA Implementation Regional Meetings. These meetings will provide information supplemental to the discussions on the School Act amendments that took place at the April 19th, 2024, DRIPA Action Plan Implementation Provincial Meeting.
The focus of these meetings is to support First Nations on effective implementation of the amendments including the Model Local Education Agreement, Indigenous Education Councils and First Nations School of Choice. The sessions will inform additional support needed to implement the new legislative changes.
- Process First Nations will follow to implement their School(s) of Choice including provisions in the School Act and provincial policy.
- A review of the Model Local Education Agreement and details on the process to request its implementation.
- Indigenous Education Councils including Terms of Reference, membership, purpose, and procedures, and school district targeted capacity funding.
- Indigenous Education Targeted Funds policy changes.
Participation is limited to two representatives per BC First Nation/Tribal Council. There will be a waitlist for additional participants. Maximum venue capacities apply.
Travel is reimbursable for up to two representatives per BC First Nation or Tribal Council to attend the closest meeting.
